UPDATE: "Jesse Jane and other cast members will appear [live] and in person to sign copies of Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge. The festivities will go down on at the Hustler Hollywood Sunset store on Thursday October 2nd, from 8-10 p.m. and at Hustler Hollywood San Diego on Friday October 3rd." (Via Tony Batman)

This past Saturday, Digital Playground (MySpace) celebrated the release of their new blockbuster adult movie Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge -- directed by Joone, budgeted at over $1 million, and billed as "The Biggest Adult Production in History," featuring 11 sex scenes and over 600 special effects -- with the world premiere screening at The Orpheum Theatre and subsequent afterparty at Club 740 in Downtown LA.

Considering the movie's epic size and scope, the turnout was equally impressive. In attendance (and this is by no means an all-inclusive list) were Digital Playground contract stars Jesse Jane (MySpace), Katsuni (MySpace), Stoya (MySpace), Gabriella Fox (MySpace), and Riley Steele (MySpace), as well as Sasha Grey (MySpace), Jenna Haze (MySpace), Evan Stone with wife Syren, Tommy Gunn, and Ben English (MySpace). Also present was former Digital Playground star Teagan Presley (MySpace) -- serving as red carpet hostess for both Digital Playground and XFANZ, as well as Aiden Starr, Dana DeArmond (MySpace), Kayden Kross (MySpace), Hanna Hilton (MySpace), Lexxi Tyler (MySpace), Nikki Jayne, Bobbi Starr (MySpace), Nicki Hunter, Arianna Armani (MySpace), Sophie Dee (MySpace), Veronique Vega (MySpace), Sunny Lane (MySpace), Veronika Raquel (NSFW), Jana Jordan (MySpace), Roxy DeVille (MySpace), Charlotte Stokely (MySpace), and Max Hardcore. And the adult press included AVN's Paul Fishbein, Dan Miller, Jared Rutter, Peter Warren, Gareth Pursehouse, and Gia Jordan (MySpace), XBIZ's Joanne Cachapero and Casey O'Donnell, Tony Batman, and Fleshbot's Gram Ponante and DCypher.

The spectacle of seeing a pornographic movie on the big screen, whether it be on a college campus or especially at a historic venue like The Orpheum was not lost on many attendees, let alone the theatre and security staff. In fact, there was raucous cheering and applause from the audience during the sex scenes in Stagnetti's Revenge, particularly during the second-ever pairing of Jane and Belladonna (MySpace), which was raved about afterwards.

So with the adult industry experiencing sharp declines in business, as evidenced by the absence of several major companies at the recent Erotica LA convention, will epics like Stagnetti's Revenge and the imminent release of Michael Ninn's The Four signal a much-anticipated turnaround? Judging by the record number of pre-orders and enthusiastic reviews thus far, it's smooth sailing ahead.

Special thanks to all of the attendees and Digital Playground.

Tommy Gunn sat next to me at the afterparty!

Stoya looks great.

Wow. Does this represent a return to story-driven vehicles in adult? I left the industry several years ago after penning God-knows-how-many scripts and receiving 3 AVN awards. Why? The cable and PPV markets relaxed their standards and began buying gonzo product and the need for story-driven titles (15 page minimum script, 60 page maximum) vanished.

Mannnn I need to move out to LA! We don't get news like this on Gothamist.
:/

i can't walk out of the house without tripping on a porn star

tp4free: lucky you...I think.

The trailer looks like a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean and Somebody does Somebody else, A Lot. I was surprised that the CG monster looked halfway decent. Another plus is there's no hokey porn film music.

The main reason I don't want porn is that it usually has no plot and banging should be a full participation sport. Watching someone else get all that is just annoying.

Why do porn stars have such contrived show names? Whatever happened to Jane Smith or Joe Jones?
