Map of the Day: Metro Studies Transit Options to Harbor

harborsubdivisionmap.jpg
You can download this map here (.pdf)

Metro just completed a set of meetings with the community regarding a transit study area they're calling the Harbor Subdivision. Like the Westside Extension process, everything is on the table from light rail to rapid buses to doing nothing (well, except a subway). If a rail line were to actually be put in, you're looking at connections with the Blue Line, Green Line and possibly the Crenshaw Line that is also in study mode right now. If you have an idea on how this transit corridor should be built up, Metro is accepting comments for this phase of the project until October 22.

Some sort of rail development on that corridor makes sense. The Slauson ave portion in particular would run through dense, transit-dependent areas and would likely have significant ridership. Connecting Long Beach to LAX would also be beneficial.

Once this is built, a line down lincoln from Santa Monica to LAX could be constructed, and you would be getting dangerously close to a realistic mass transportation network.

That Harbor-Subdivision line looks pretty incredible. Downtown to LAX to downtown Long Beach? Count me in.

Or instead of down lincoln, down the center of the 405. (there is space between the two directions on the 405 for a train). Starts at the 101 interchange and goes down to LAX. Would connect in two places, to the Westside Extension (Subway to the Sea) and the Expo Line.

Have lots of private market parking garages built around the 101 interchange and let everyone drive down to sherman oaks, park, and ride the subway/train into the city or to LAX.

Yeah, driving into Sherman Oaks wouldn't be a good idea, Linkracer. I work near the interchange and traffic is already pretty horrid. There's also no where to put a garage or station. The 101/405 interchange is poorly designed, making it hard to get onto either freeway, and the busiest freeway interchange in the country. Massive headache.

I would really like to see an extension of the purple line down Wilshire, perhaps out to the Grove/LACMA, then on to the Beverly Hills business district and finally UCLA. Might help the mid-Wilshire/Miracle Mile traffic issues.

you need a train running from san pedro along the 110 al the way to downtown los angeles

i agree with KinOfCain. The final addition to our mass-transit woes would be a Lincoln Blvd. subway linking LAX to the Subway-to-the-Sea.

A train up the 405 would leave Venice and Marina Del Rey out of the mass-transit picture, while a Lincoln Blvd. line gives an alternative transit solution to the only real thoroughfare that far west.

Plus -- and I'm not sure why it isn't on the map above -- the mailing sent out for Measure R had a 405/Sepulveda Pass train on it... Is that not still on the table?

Light rail all the way down the 110, and rail on that Harbor Subdivision. Nothing less. And do it by 2015. Can anyone in Western civilisation actually harness industry anymore, or are we just now committed to inching our way towards the future.
