John McCain in LA Today
As his running mate Sarah Palin prepares for her Thursday debate (notice how FOX News is already giving her an out?) with Obama VP select Joe Biden, Republican nominee John McCain will be trying to raise a quarter million dollars at a fundraiser tonight. It's at the Century Plaza Hyatt Regency in Century City, so plan ahead for some extra special traffic tonight if you're in the area. Or maybe you're going to the fundraiser 'cause hey, you get a nifty little McCain-Palin lapel pin for the $1000 to $2500 entry fee. Wow. Life would be just so complete then.

Wow, that last sentence is almost snarky!
Brock would be so proud!

I like how he criticizes Obama for schmoozing with L.A. elites from the safety of an Ohio stump speech, then comes to L.A. to do the same thing himself right afterward. What a Maverick.

thank you for this!! i'd be stuck in traffic for hours if I didn't know!

Speaking of the debate: Brian Todd makes a good (sad) point on CNN.

Does anyone know the story behing that photo of him? Was he playing around or what?

It was probably the melanoma acting up.
I do think it odd that the public McCain is less critical of Obama and more centered upon the national crises, while his ads continue to lambaste Obama with half-truths and outright lies.

Oh, please.
If Brit Hume was moderating and had a book "My Friend, John McCain" set to release in January, you people would be screaming your heads off...and for good reason.
Personally, I like Gwen Ifill but her serving as moderator on this debate is HIGHLY inappropriate.

"Personally, I like Gwen Ifill but her serving as moderator on this debate is HIGHLY inappropriate."
LOL "highly inappropriate"? I guess because if she has a bias she won't parade it in front of the camera.

It's called journalistic integrity, jrb
Something our media seems to have conveniently forgotten as of a late.
I don't put ethical blinders just to benefit a political candidate. Again, if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd be supporting the Dems on this.
But of course, all of my words are merely code for, "I watch Fox News 24/7 and am not voting for Obama because he's black."

"Something our media seems to have conveniently forgotten as of a late."
Which is why PBS news has been doing so well these last few years. People don't trust main stream media since they dropped the ball on Iraq.
And guess who Gwen Ifill works for?
That's riiight. P-B-S.
Who would you have had moderate?
George Stephanopolis?
He did such an "unbiased" job during the primary debates.
Hope you're wearing that American Flag lapel pin TUA.

Yes, as a television producer, I am quite aware that Gwen Ifill has a program on PBS. During the Democratic and Republican conventions, I tuned in to both Jim Lehrer and Washington Week for fresh perspectives on the issues.
Overall, I was very pleased with Ifill's moderation last night, though my original concern about a possible conflict of interest still stands.
As for Stephanopoulos...I wasn't aware that he was now on the Daily Kos enemies list. Will have to make a note of that.
And yes, I have a USN Veteran American Flag pin which I purchased on 9/14/01 and wear proudly on every national holiday.
As a Veteran, I don't usually make a habit of reducing the American Flag to a punch line nor do I possess a feeling of shame of country, no matter who happens to be currently residing in the White House.
If Obama becomes our next president, I will continue to wear it proudly.
I must say at this point, there's a small part of me that is hoping he does because honestly, I don't think I could stand another 4 years of watching you people bleed your pussies out.

Oy. "Overall, I was very pleased with Ifill's moderation last night, though my original concern about a possible conflict of interest still stands".
The Ugly American thinks Gwen did a good job, but he's going to reserve the right to "change his mind" if Fox News and the Drudge Report tell him that Gwen wasn't as fair and balanced as he thinks.

He = She
And yes, I masturbate incessantly to Fox News, Drudge Report, Rush Limbaugh and old Ronald Reagan films.
Not unlike the ongoing circle jerk here on LAist.

Did anyone here pay up the $28,500 plate fee to see the Barak speak in Beverly Hills last month?

"Hope you're wearing that American Flag lapel pin TUA."
I was referring to Stephanopolis asking Obama why he wasn't wearing an American flag lapel pin during a candidate's forum he so "unbiasedly" moderated.
BTW George wasn't wearing one either.
"As for Stephanopoulos...I wasn't aware that he was now on the Daily Kos enemies list. Will have to make a note of that."
I don't know if George Steph is on anyone's hit list. I just know he's a right wing hack trying really hard to come off like he's neutral. Problem is he can't seem to keep the right wing hack from slipping out every once in a while.
"If Obama becomes our next president, I will continue to wear it proudly."
That's nice TUA. Maybe President Obama will actually give you some reasons to feel proud wearing it.

I must have that pin. At that price, it's' got to be encrusted with diamonds, or something.
