Ed McMahon Sued by Merv Griffin's Company

Ed McMahon sued by Merv GriffinTimes are not getting easier for Ed McMahon. First his Studio City home faced foreclosure in June which led to this photo from the set of a rap video for FreeCreditReport.com, a financial Web site owned by credit bureau Experian (the video will come out in October). Now he is being sued over an alleged loan from Merv Griffin's company.

"The Griffin Group Inc. claims it loaned the money to McMahon, Johnny Carson's sidekick on the 'Tonight' show, in 2005. The company filed the suit on Thursday and states that none of the loan has been repaid," reported the Associated Press. The company claims they lent McMahon $100,000 and are seeking repayment, interest and attorneys fees.

McMahon's publicist would not comment directly on the case saying this instead, referring to the Studio City home north of Mulholland Drive: "Anybody wanna buy a nice house in The Summit?"

lended? don't you mean "lent"

Jerzy - It should be “lent” but the form “lended” does seem to be creeping into our language. It may be that both forms become acceptable, given more time (this is a pattern seen with other words, like “leaned” and “leant” for the past version of “lean”.)
