When Reporters Get Annoyed They Call Out Politicians
This time it is LA Times Bottleneck blogger Steve Hymon calling out LA County Supervisor Don Knabe, a "leader in regional transportation." Well, the regional attraction that is the 22-mile bike path running from Temescal Canyon to Torrance has a section in Marina Del Rey that could be mistaken for the San Andreas Fault, according to Hymon who says the crack in pavement is "perfect for catching bike tires." So what's he doing about it? "Surely, such a leader will be able to get a relatively small section of bike path repaved so that grumpy reporters aren't making inquiries about it, as I'm about to do." Go, Steve, Go.

I typically ride on Admiralty Way through Marina Del Rey because to go over some of the lumps bumps and cracks on that little stretch of bike path at speed is asking for an accident or at least a sore ass. The other thing that is annoying is the bike path cuts through a parking lot and is frequently broken by small roads where cars don't have to stop. I think a bike lane and traffic calming on Admiralty Way would make for a better route, but I'm sure the people who love to drive 50-60 mph on it would prefer bikes stay on the horribly planned and maintained bike path.
