COOL OFF AT GRIFFITH PARK
Summer may be over but the temperature is still high, that's why you should attend The Great Los Angeles Ice Cream Party. Meet at the old merry-go-round at 2 p.m. for free ice cream and fun for all ages. Optional donations go to LA Commons, a non-profit organization bringing public art to LA neighborhoods.
JUMP ON THE APATOW BANDWAGON
Judd Apatow is hosting a special night of stand-up at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Advanced tickets are sold out but there is always the stand-by line! (Totally worth it). Apparently some surprise guests will be performing... Ohhh let's hope for Michael Cera! Anyone? Anyone?
HANG OUT WITH SHEPARD FAIREY
Shepard Fairey will be at La Luz de Jesus Gallery today signing copies of his new book, "E Pluribus Venom", a collection of works exhibited in 2007 at the Jonathan Levine gallery. His work is designed to question America and it's institutions. Come out between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., but get there early, it's sure to fill up fast.
ATTACK OF THE TONES
For those who know and love the Museum of Jurassic Technology for it's often quirky and bizarre exhibits, the museum is hosting a night of auditory pleasures entitled, Labyrinthitis. Jacob Kierkgaard, a German composer, will blow your mind demonstrating the art of hearing backwards. Yes, that's right. He takes tones from his own ears and sends them to the audience's ears. Strange, but true.
ASCEND TO THE TOP OF SUNSET BLVD.
All day, composer Michael Pisaro will perform his work, "Ascending Series 3", alongside 18 others. This non-stop performance of 8 hours and 10 minutes will feature "fixed tonal content". (Lots of "tones" this weekend). The event takes place atop Eighteen Thirty, so whether or not this "tonal content" is stimulating, you will get to make your own music and get a great view of the city!
Other Things To Do...
Today is the Watts Towers Day of the Drum festival dedicated to Charles Mingus, so stop by for some dancing and drumming all day long, there is also a special performance by the Silverlake Conservatory of Music at Union Station today, or The Fab Four, a (really good) Beatles cover band, performs at the House of Blues tonight, or if you've got some deep pockets, day 2 of the 26th American Wine and Food Festival at Universal Studios is tonight at 6 p.m., so indulge in the best of the best, if none of that is enough for you, get out your hot pants and get on the rink, the roller disco is back this month for another great night of Xanadu and ABBA.
