Weekend Movie Guide: Choke on this, baby!

If you're only going to see one movie this weekend, make the time to check out Choke. It's dirty. It's funny. It's got the great Sam Rockwell in it. If you are the type that is entertained by mindless tripe, however, you could probably do worse than Eagle Eye. Is it awful? Well, yes. But it is glossy. And there lots of cool (albeit spectacularly unrealistic) stunts. Are you stuck in a loveless relationship and long for the feeling of a wildly romantic chance encounter? Or did you just like The Notebook? Nights in Rodanthe might be for you.

Miracle at St. Anna is the latest from the resurgent Spike Lee (wasn't The Inside Man fucking great?). Fernando Meirelles will probably never make a movie as good as his spectacular City of God but Blindness looks intriguing. Forever Strong doesn't look especially groundbreaking, but isn't Gary Cole always worth watching? Dax Shepard (one of the stars of Smother) isn't. Neither is gooey doofus Kirk Cameron, who headlines the Christianist Fireproof. Oh loveliness that was Chelsea Noble--why did you marry that tool?

For fucking fuck's sake, GO SEE "CHOKE." I've seen it twice already (LAFF and a pre-screen at the Aero). It is fucking amazing -- funny and weird and sick and twisted and gross and romantic and awesome.

Also, Clark Gregg is doing a Q&A at the Landmark before tomorrow night's 740 show. He did Q&A at both the screenings I went to, and he's very funny and very informative.

I'll second CHOKE which is based on a book by my favorite author, Chuck Palahniuk.

The story is the real star of this movie which unfortunately looks like it was shot on film in 1970. I wish they could've gotten a bigger budget so it didn't look so awful, but everything else is fantastic.

Great acting and great story. There's really not much else you should want out of a movie.
