West Side Japanese - Terried Sake House

Terried Sake House falls into the hole-in-the-wall category. It's a great little Japanese Izakaya on Santa Monica close to Federal. An Izakaya, of course, is a restaurant that serves beer and sake and also the food that goes with it. The place is small and a bit dingy, but the food more than makes up for it. It's also fairly inexpensive for an Izakaya, so we got to order a ton of stuff. Alright, less talk, more pictures of food. Here we go.

The place gets crowded quickly, we got there at 6 on a weeknight and didn't have to wait, but by 7 there was a good line outside. For good reason, of course. The food's tasty, authentic, wholesome and inexpensive. Our total bill came out to about $46, less tip and we were pretty full. Service is decent and polite. I'd love to come back and try more stuff.

Great descriptions of the food. I can't wait to try this place!

Man I live so close to that place. I actually visit Juquila's next door very often, and I always see this place being very crowded. Thanks for the description, now I'm convinced to try it out!

I used to live right behind this joint. Excellent food and Nobu is a great host. A few of recommendations beyond the squid steak, which is a personal fav.

-Spicy Scallop roll with garlic sauce (will blow your mind)
-Asparagus with butter
-Scallops with butter
-teriyaki corn
-Yakisoba

The Izakaya right next door, Sasaya, is also good. The food doesn't quite stand out as much, but the ambiance is more intimate. Also Hiro is an excellent host/waiter.

@dzynz - Okay, I'm totally going back for that scallop, that sounds fantastic.

oh man, I LOVE this place and totally forgot about it. Going back soon!

let saigon, the "vietnamese" place next door sucks. avoid.

I'm down for the avocado, but that unfiltered sake will knock you right out of your shoes! I'm surprised those last pics aren't just one big blur.

@KevCheng

Success! Be sure to ask for the garlic sauce. It doesn't come with it. You'll want to buy a tub of it and take it home with you.

definitely a fav! i miss their baby okra skewers. hopefully they bring them back.
