TV Junkie: Wednesday

Knight RiderABC won the viewership battle of opening night of the season, although the "beginning" of the season gets more ambiguous every year. What put them over the top was "Dancing With the Stars" which featured a pretty awesome Cloris Leachman who can kick some ass at 82. Evidently she wants to "blow" Bob Saget according to the Comedy Central roast of him a few weeks ago so perhaps she's staying spry in hopes of that.

So many hours were lost watching the original as an adolescent, I really don't want to even mention it, but the relaunch of "Knight Rider" debuts tonight. The problem is that the original, even with the nostalgia factor, was utter crap - "Magnum P.I." was always a better option. Perhaps only "Airwolf" was worse than "Knight Rider". The prediction is that this new version will stink even worse - KITT happens.

The TV Junkie fears an inauspicious debut for Jay Mohr's new series "Gary Unmarried" - we didn't receive screeners and other folks in the business we talked to haven't seen it either and that's not a good sign. People hate Jay Mohr like they hate Michael Chiklis but his show "Action" is an underground classic.

We've been reporting live from New York the last couple days, where we saw Jim Gaffigan place an order in a cafe on Bleeker Street - he ordered a hot tea and a bran muffin, no mention of Hot Pockets. He was looking trim and was friendly if not busy - listen to LAist's interview with Gaffigan from last year.

There's a lot of stuff tonight but here's the TV Junkie plan: "New Adventures of Old Christine" (cuz we love that Fey loves Dreyfus); "Project Runway" (because we wish we were going back to Cali'); "Sons of Anarchy"; Letterman (give McCain hell Dave).

John McCain cancelled his Letterman appearance to go fix the economy.

Sarah Palin can see a bank from her house.

But will they talk about David Blaine taking breaks?!
