LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 10-1. It was over in the first inning when Padres starter Wade LeBlanc got his first out when the eighth man Angel Berroa came to the plate. By then the Dodgers had already scored five runs. Dodger's starter Chad Billingsley came to bat after that with a squeeze play for the second out and the sixth run. While Billingsley had a somewhat shaky performance, he only gave up one run. Meanwhile the Padres managed to get a hit in every inning but just couldn't string together the hits. It's much like it has been all season for them. With the Diamondbacks losing 7-4 to the Cardinals, the Dodgers magic number is down to three.

Seattle Mariners defeat LA Angels 9-6. Isn't it sad that as good as the Angels are, they are still second class citizens here in LA? Things were going swimmingly for the Angels until the sixth inning when Jered Weaver gave up four runs to tie the game at six. The Mariners would grab three more runs in the seventh to put the game on ice. With the Rays sweeping the doubleheader against the Orioles, the Angel's lead for the best record in baseball is down to two.

Notable Notes

Just this note for today. With Boston's win, the New York Yankees were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Going back to Sunday when the Yankees had an elaborate pregame ceremony for their final home game at Yankee Stadium, they mentioned just about every Yankee in history. Well all except for two: Roger Clemens and Joe Torre. I would say that I'm surprised but knowing how much class the Steinbrenners have it doesn't come as a shock. Here are two people who had a huge part of making the Yankees relevant in the late 90s and throughout this decade. Hell, both Clemens and Torre made broadcaster Suzy Waldman lose her shit. Before their 13 consecutive years in October play they had a 12 year drought (not including the 1994 strike season). So Yanks, look for another 12 year drought you schmucks.
