LAist Quick Pick: Loteria Grill Hollywood
Loteria Grill at the Original Farmers Market has long been one of the city's most popular Mexican outposts (we reviewed it back in April just for kicks), so it's nice to see chef Jimmy Shaw take up residence in an attractive space on Hollywood Boulevard. The new restaurant's menu is more extensive than the original's, but there are still plenty of your old favorites to choose from. LAist's editor Zach Behrens has given the place thumbs up for vegetarian options, but meat eaters will enjoy a long list of pork, chicken, and beef entrees as well.
Although dishes like chile rellanos and enchiladas are tasty choices, you really want to focus on the tacos here. For a first visit, the "Probraditas" taco sampler is a must -- all twelve taco varieties served on silver-dollar sized tortillas, so you can decide for yourself which versions you like best. I'm partial to the albondigas en chipotle, the mole poblano con pollo, and the papa con rajas (aka meatballs, chicken mole, and potatoes with roasted peppers, for you gringos). Another major highlight, especially for you heat-addicts? The jalapeno margarita! Spicy but sweet, with a nice tequila kick and garnished with slivers of jalapeno, this cocktail isn't for the faint of heart, but goes down quite nicely with Loteria's phenomenal guacamole.

Been a fan since the opening in 2002. Glad to see Jimmy *finally* in the new space. The Farmers Market was keeping him from doing a lot of what he wanted there. Yum!

Be careful when ordering veggie options, I learned the hard way last week that the beans are not vegetarian :(

Hmm, yeah, I don't think this place is very veggie-friendly either. There was a post on yelp (unfortunately deleted) that said they put chicken stock in a lot of items, including the rice and the zucchini filling. They said the only "safe" things are the salads and possibly the potato filling. (the latter is also full of butter - no wonder it's so good though lol)
