At today's City Council meeting, the members unanimously voted to oppose Proposition 7, an environmental initiative on this November's ballot that would require "all utilities, including government-owned utilities, to generate 20% of their power from renewable energy by 2010, a standard currently applicable only to private electrical corporations. Raises requirement for all utilities to 40% by 2020 and 50% by 2025."
Seems like a good thing, right?
The problem is, according to opponents of the prop, which include many major environmental groups and most all major utilities, is that it's too complex, too risky and has significant loopholes. Basically, it has good intentions, but was poorly written. The LA Times agrees.

So how bout we start a campaign called "Vote No on Prop 7... and draft some fracking better legislation for next year." Amazing how all those groups can raise millions to put out ads against "poorly written" props, and not divert a piece of that moolah to write a good proposition we can all be proud of and support. I'm looking to you Environmental Groups + Utility Companies. Write some good legislation together... before somebody forces bad legislation on both of you.
Agreed. What is a "well written" alternative? Let's get it done asap, rather than bickering for years.
