TV Junkie: Monday

piven_emmy.jpgIn the mind of the TV Junkie, last night's Emmy Awards were a vindication of the cutting edge programming happening on cable, both premium and basic. With the exception of reality programming and vague miniseries that nobody has heard of, the big networks came up mostly empty other than NBC's fantastic "30 Rock".

Yes, Jeremy Piven (left), won an Emmy, but it was largely undeserved as there were better performances on other shows, and the character of Ari is becoming more of a caricature as the seasons of "Entourage" drag on. Congrats to Bryan Cranston for "Breaking Bad" and Glenn Close for "Damages" (here's LAist's interview with Close from last year). "Mad Men"'s win of Best Drama was a definite topper, even if the show is about New York and not LA. Congrats to all the winners.

Lots of season premieres tonight. Here's the TV Junkie plan: "Top Gear"; "Heroes"; Letterman; Conan.

Bryan Cranston's award is about 10 years late - although it's nice to see him finally get one. His turn on Breaking Bad (especially the pilot episode) was amazing.

Still, nothing really for THE WIRE which is easily the greatest show ever produced for TV. Such a ridiculous snub for that great series, casting, writing, acting, and directing.

thx for the reminder... my DVR is gonna be so busy tonight.

Big bang theory, How I Met Your Mother
One Tree Hill is overlapping with 1st hour of Heroes
Boston Legal is overlapping with 2nd hour of Heroes

Raising The Bar ... maybe I'll just skip it tonight and wait for a re-run. Can't handle 3 shows of 9-10 :-(

nice to see "damages" getting noticed

Kelvlam... that "first hour" of heroes i think is just a recap and extra behind the scenes interviews. The 2nd and third hour are key. So I would skip the TiVo of the first hour and go for How I met your mother.
