Win Tix to The Raconteurs and The Kills @ The Greek Theatre

Raconteurs ticketsIn addition to our My Morning Jacket contest (which ends Friday), we are giving away a pair of tickets to The Raconteurs' concert on Tuesday, September 23 at The Greek Theatre (tickets). The band also plays on Monday, September 22 (tickets). This concert tour is in support of their "Consolers Of The Lonely" album.

The Raconteurs describe themselves as “a new band made up of old friends.” So let's say an old friend of yours is visiting Los Angeles for the first time for a one day layover before heading to Hawaii, what itinerary would you make for them? Is it a morning hike in Griffith Park followed by lunch at Trails Cafe? Then shopping in Los Feliz proceeded by some dinner at Tangier before heading off to The Greek for a show? Whatever you would do, write it in the comments below to enter this contest to win a pair of tickets to the Tuesday night show.

Here's how the contest works:

  • Enter the contest by making a comment on this post. Comments must fit the criteria, stated below.
  • The criteria of the comment is that you write a sample itinerary for a friend visiting Los Angeles for the first time during a daylong layover while heading to Hawaii.
  • You may only enter once.
  • The contest closes at 11:59:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008.
  • One qualifying entry will be randomly selected to receive a pair of tickets and will be notified via the e-mail connected to their LAist.com login. They must confirm the receipt of the e-mail by 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2008 or the tickets will be released to another winner.
  • Tickets will be held at the will-call pick up at the event

Good luck!

8 am pitstop at Urth.
9 am - 10:30 pm trip to the Getty Museum (brunch there too, baby)
1 pm dim sum run
2:30 pm post-lunch trip to Pinkberry
3:30 pm lay around at Zuma and watch for some fricken dolphins

First we hop onto a FlyAway and head to Union Station. After checking out the last great railway station we'll walk across the street to Olvera Street and have some Mexican hot chocolate w/espresso at Casa De Sousa. Then quick walk to Main St./Cesar Chavez to wait for a 76 bus to take us to The Brewery in Lincoln Heights. I'll show off my workplace and then we'll have lunch at either Barbara's at The Brewery or have some awesome sandwiches at Lanza Brothers Market across the street. After that we'll hop back on the 76 bus and get off at the Chinatown Gold Line Station. We'll hop on the Gold Line and ride to the Del Mar Station in Pasadena, enjoying the views of the Downtown skyline and the San Gabriel Mountains along the way. In Pasadena we will walk to Distant Lands travel store where my friend will pick up last minute travel items for Hawaii. After a short stroll around pedestrian-friendly Old Town we will get on the Gold Line at Memorial Park and travel back to Union Station where we will make transfer to LA's one and only subway. We will disembark at the Hollywood/Highland Station and venture out to the madness that is Hollywood/Highland. From there we will walk north on Highland and hook a left on Camrose to check out the Hollywood Heights neighborhood and climb up the winding streets made of steps and and check out the elevator on High Tower Drive. Even though we are both quite exhausted, the tour is not yet done, and the reservation I made at http://www.yamashirorestaurant.com/">Yamashiro is impending, which is fine since we are just steps away. Well, steps and a steep hill. After climbing up the driveway to Yamashiro, it's all worth it for dining with the stunning view of the vast metropolis at dusk. At dinner my guest asks, "I thought everyone drives in LA?" to which my response will be "I dunno." And then my guest will ask, "Where's the beach" to which I'll respond, "I dunno."

10 pm: rooftop bar at the Downtown Standard

Dear ..., I'll pick you up at LAX and then we'll get on the PCH towards Leo Carillo State Beach and pick up a couple of beers at a liquor store, because at that beach it's actually legal to drink... When hungry we'll just head to Neptune's Net and grab a bite to eat and enjoy more (cheap) beer there. It gets a little chilly up there after 3 P.M., so we take Mullholland Drive back to Hollywood and stop at Runyon Canyon, where you almost have a better view than from Griffith Park and less hassle. The view from up there is pretty awesome. Then we'll have some dinner at (There's no place like) Home on Hillhurst in Los Feliz. After dinner we'll go and see a show at Spaceland and then it's almost time again to get you to Union Station where you'll take the Fly Away Bus back to LAX and catch your plane to Hawaii. Can't wait to see you!

1) Since we're already on the Westside, it starts with a trip up the coast to enjoy the morning at the oft-overlooked Matador Beach in Malibu.

2) Drive a little further up to enjoy bikers, beer, and fried fish at Neptune's Net.

3) Drive through the scenery on Malibu Canyon/Las Virgenes on our way back to Hollywood and go to Amoeba.

4) Head to Griffith Park for a late-afternoon hike to the top of Mt. Hollywood, with a stop at the Observatory on the way down.

5) Cool down with ice cream at Scoops.

6) Go sip some margaritas and eat chips with lukewarm tomato sauce at El Coyote.

7) Dinner at In 'n Out!

8) See a show at the Troubador - maybe not the best room, but certainly one of the most hallowed.

9) After-show drinks at the Mandrake with a bunch of jaded hipsters.

10) Stay up until sunrise in Santa Monica by the pier and then back to the airport. I'm beat!

Brunch at Little Doms in Los Feliz.

Walk it off with a hike in Griffith Park.

Take a drive on Sunset all the way to Santa Monica.

heres the plan. i pack up the surfboards, pick him up at lax and cruise over to el porto for some barrels. lunch at tito's taco's, than head back over to the eastside (yo fuck the westside)to pick up some medicinal. than we cruise back to my pad, put on some turbonegro, smoke some bowls, and drink an 18-pack of tecate. now that we got a good buzz on, i grab the keys and roll the convertible skylark down to footsies for some stiff drinks, a hot bartender, and a few rounds of pool. i hook my buddy up with two chicks for a threesome (i'm not into that because I'm married and a gentlemen) and we roll back to my pad so he can get his groove on. than, when the sun comes up, i call him a cab and kick all their asses out the door til next time. i can't have my kids seeing any of that shit......yah heard?

Tito's Tacos for lunch
Melrose for babe watching
Dinner at Roscoe's (Sunset and Gower location)
Up to Griffith Park to watch the sun set
Music at the Greek or Hollywood Bowl
