Robberies Continue in Melrose Area

Robberies around Melrose AveAfter a spate of robberies at the end of August in neighborhoods surrounding the trendy area of Melrose, a couple have been reported recently. One was this morning and another was on Saturday during broad daylight when an ice cream vendor was mugged and pistol whipped near Melrose and Fairfax according to one LAist tipster who submitted the photo seen to the right.

The other one happened this morning. Via the neighborhood watch group:

This morning , Thursday September 18th at approximately 6:30 AM, a man with a gun approached an employee opening up for business outside the Coffee Bean on Melrose Avenue and Gardner Street.

As a female employee was setting up tables outside the store, the suspect walked up to the woman and pointed a gun to her head and ordered her into the store. Once inside, he rounded up the other employees on duty, forced them to the office at the rear of the store, and threatened them with harm while demanding money.

He escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

Suspect is described as 6 ft, 260 pounds, African American male.
