City Council Approves Late-Night Subway Motion

Without much discussion, the LA City Council approved the late-night subway motion which would expand service on the weekends to 3:00 a.m. between November 1st and January 3rd. But this doesn't mean everything is said and done.
The City doesn't run Metro--they are two separate government agencies. Now that the City officially wants it, the issue will need to be approved by Metro's Board (hopefully next week), explained Eric Richardson of blogdowntown over the phone. Richardson has been following the issue closely and says that more private money has to be raised. It was last reported that $50,000 of the $90,000 need to make the two-month pilot program go through.
Add: Ed Fuentes posts about it on blogdowntown saying that Thursday nights are no longer being considered due to funding and Metro's need to have time for maintenance.

This is badly needed - especially for valley folks who like to club in hollywood. I was under the impression Metro intentionally closed down at midnite to keep such traffic off its lines, worried about the impact of carrying passengers leaving bars.

Is there a reason why it's only Nov to Jan? I guess it's a start, but it doesn't help much if you're going to a concert that gets out later (which happen throughout the year).
And Mark, I would think the impact of carrying inebriated passengers on a train is better than the alternative of them potentially driving home.

Lame that thursdays arn't being considered. I guess no riding the subway to dance right on thursday nights

this is really great news. but metro never ceases to amaze me with their incompetence re: no thursday nights.
i can't even wrap my head around that one.
we need this year round.. and 7 days a week, in a row.

They should add Thursdays also, a lot of people go out on Thursday Nights and if this is a pilot program they should add that night as well to get a better idea how many people hang out in Hollywood late night.
Over last few years Hollywood has made some enormous improvements which now start to benefit city more. Businesses have more people spending money there, tourists hang out in those areas at night now.
There is less prostitution and less drug dealers. We should continue cleaning this area and bring more people out there so that it continues to grow.
Bottom line let's get Metro running Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Start and then if that works we should go further and run it every night or at least keep those 3 days for now.
On top of it all I hope Metro is considering a way to inform people about this service, otherwise they will have a pilot program that nobody knows about.
