Ten cities in two separate categories are up against each other for an award naming them the most business friendly city of the year in Los Angeles County. Starting in 2006, the LA Economic Development Corporation began the Eddy Awards to "celebrate individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional contributions to positive economic development in the region." For example, Santa Clarita does not assess a utility user tax and Glendale has no business tax, license fees and no gross receipts tax.
El Segundo was the first winner with Lancaster winning last year. But the LAEDC said this year they had to split it in to two different categories due to the "overwhelming strength of the applications received." Here are the categories, do you live in any of these cities?

- Cerritos
- Glendale
- Long Beach
- Pasadena
- Santa Clarita
Population Under 50,000
- Culver City
- La Mirada
- Monrovia
- Santa Fe Springs
- Vernon
The population of Vernon during the 2000 census was 91.
The LAEDC is also honoring real estate developer Rick Caruso and The Walt Disney Company for their outstanding private sector leadership in economic development.

Long Beach is so friedly to business that it is willing to let them destroy our downtown and replace it with a suburban-style mall with a walmart as an anchor.
I am not saying we should be hostile to business, of course. But we are a bad example of how cities bend themselves over backwards for business interests and end up with nothing to show for it.
