Restaurant Rumors: Cole's Reopening?
Here's a big win for fans of classic sandwiches: a tip just came down the wire that Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet, one of the two restaurants in L.A. that claims responsibility for inventing the famed French Dip sandwich (the other being Phillipe's), will be reopening sometime in late October or early November. Downtown nightlife impresario Cedd Moses, of 213 Downtown, acquired Cole's in 2007 and has been renovating the space back to the glory of its early 20th century heyday.
Neal Fraser, chef at Grace and BLD, will be the consulting on the menu, which promises a $10 price cap. Along with your sandwich, expect to enjoy homemade seasonal pies and a wide selection of beer and wine (fun fact: Cole's sold over 19,000 gallons of beer the day after prohibition ended in California). An event commemorating 100 years of the French Dip will be taking place around the time of the soft launch; watch this space for more details....

19,000 gallons of beer in one day. I would like them to repeat that.

I used to love getting their meatloaf for lunch.
Sounds like they won't reopen with that same old menu though.
