MUSIC*: More than 1,000 artists have been lined up for the 16-day Festival of Sacred Music that started on Saturday. Tonight at 8 pm at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre is Masar Wa Nisae – the Woman's Path, featuring the music of Northern Morocco's Arab, Jewish and Berber women. Featured performers are Vanessa Paloma (voice, medieval harp) and Samira Kadiri (voice), accompanied by Nabil Akbib (violin, oud, percussion), David Martinelli (percussion) and Romeo Guzman (nay). Tickets are $26.
MORE MUSIC: The Ford Amphitheatre presents its latest J.A.M. Session: Hip Hop Ya Don't Stop tonight. J.U.i.C.E. (Justice by Uniting in Creative Energy) hosts a special edition of its weekly hip hop arts program at the Ford. The two-hour workshop focuses on four elements of hip hop: Breakdancing, Emceeing/Spoken Word, Deejaying, and Graffiti Art. The program starts at 7 pm. Word.
FILM: The 12th Annual Latino International Film Festival continues until Friday. The featured film tonight at the Mann #6 is Brazil’s Mare, Nossa Historia de Amor (Another Love Story). Analídia is the daughter of a gang leader, and Jonatha is a childhood friend of the another. “Openly inspired by Romeo and Juliet, the film is a review of our strong sense of music, our contemporary dance as well as the strange mix we find in slums, where violence lives along side artistic possibility brought by social projects.” There are also a number of other films on the schedule today, so check the full lineup.
HIKING: There are a lot of moonlight hikes around town tonight, but if you had to choose one, then maybe it’s time to revisit Franklin Canyon’s moderate hike. The two-hour hike begins at 7:30 pm. Meet at Franklin Canyon Ranch Site lower parking lot near restrooms in Franklin Canyon Park.
