- Lawmakers Agree on Buget Deal - State legislative leaders announced a
miraclebreakthrough in California's budget stalemate. It is not even known whether Gov. Schwarzenegger would accept the new budget. He has been adamant that he would not accept any new budget that does not include long-term reform. Leaders of the State Assembly and Senate from both parties say they closed the $15.2 billion deficit with no borrowing or any new taxes. - Dry Weather Raises Red Flags - The National Weather Service says a "Red Flag Warning" will go into effect starting midnight Monday morning. Humidity levels in mountain areas will drop to below 10%, especially around the San Gabriel Mountain area. Similar warnings were given out for mountain areas along the Central Coast, including Santa Barbara and Ventura County.
- Metrolink Blames Their Engineer - Metrolink officials explain that the engineer's failure to heed a red light caused the deadly crash that has claimed at least 25 lives. Federal transportation officials say that it is far too early to determine exactly what caused the crash. Rumors have come out the the driver of the passenger train might have been texting messages to train enthusiasts just before the accident. Metrolink officials though refute those claims.
- Child, Motorcyclist Killed In Accident - An 8 year old boy and a teenager were thrown from the SUV they were riding after it had struck a motorcycle. The boy and the man riding the motorcyle were both killed. Police say that the SUV struck the motorcyclist, who was making a left turn, then continued on and struck another car. Two others were taken to a hospital and their condition is not known at this time.
- Commuters To Be Bused Around Crash - The Metropolitan Transit Authority announced that they will provide a "bus bridge" around the crash scene starting Monday. Train service is still temporarily canceled on the Ventura line as the investigation into Friday's crash continues. Buses will leave the Moorpark station at the same time trains are scheduled to depart. Departures will start at 5:08 am.
- 'Mr. Sulu' To Wed - Actor George Takei will marry his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman in a private ceremony. They have been planning since May when the California Supreme Court declared the ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.
- He Got the 'Out-of-Towner Rate' - As if watching their team get killed wasn't bad enough. LA Times' Adam Rose sheds light on ridiculous parking rates around the Coliseum; some upwards of $100. Yikes...
