Get Out: Saturday

TAKE A TRIP EAST
Theaters, churches, and temples across L.A. will house the World Festival of Sacred Music starting today and ending on the 28th. There will be over 1000 artists performing music from India, Persia, Tuva, and more. This is a great opportunity to see what other countries across the world have to offer. Britney Spears won't be appearing, sorry to disappoint.
JOIN THE COLLECTIVE
The Artful Collective, a non-profit organization that raises money for the Downtown Los Angeles Inner-City Arts, is hosting their first event tonight. Their show entitled, "5 Things", premieres at the Coma Alternative Space Gallery with a $5 donation to the charity. The Collective interviewed a group of people to find out what their "five most common objects, feelings, and ideas" were so that four artists could turn these answers in to works of art.
GET SHORT
Sponto Gallery in Venice will be screening some extremely short films by filmmaker Dean Snider who's work from 1979-1992 could be described as nothing less than unique. He was quite the character, often paying people $1 to attend his shows and actually giving away some of his prize money from the Ann Arbor Film Festival to the losing films. His film's are definitely worth a viewing, if only to get a glimpse into this guy's fascinating life.
POP OUT FOR A POP UP SHOP
In honor of the Lego man's 30th birthday, the Opening Ceremony boutique is hosting a pop-up shop from designers at Band of Outsiders. Apparently the walls are covered in lego-men-- which, I can only imagine, looks awesome. For Lego fans, there will also be some limited edition items for sale so be on the look out!
Other Things To Do...
Check out day 2 of the 3-day West Beach Festival, learn how to cook great stuff with farmer's market food and celebrate with a tea party at Breadbar, meet Hello Kitty, see Raymond Pettibon's new solo show at Regen Projects gallery, come drink and dine on delicious bacon-wrapped hotdogs at the first USC tailgate of the season, and if you are still hungry and not too drunk from the tailgate, head to Santa Monica for the Los Angeles BBQ Festival.

If you are headed to the USC game today, please stop by 1229 W 23rd from 10am-2pm to participate in a bone marrow drive - just a mouth swab.
