  • Train Collision in Chatsworth - A Metrolink train collided with a freight train in Chatsworth and caught fire. Many passengers were apparently caught inside and injured, some critically. (LAist is covering the incident and will continue to update as more information becomes available.)

  • Legendary LA News Man Passes - George Putnam, a mainstay of local LA news passed away at a Chino hospital. He was 94.

  • Picking Up the Slack - In an area greatly affected by the closing of the King-Drew Medical Center, the opening of the Charles Drew University Urgent Care Clinic is a welcome sight. Several other new clinics are also to be opened in the area.

  • Freeway Fatality - A vehicle hit and killed a woman on the 101 Freeway this morning and caused huge delays. The accident occurred on the northbound side near the Cahuenga Pass. It was unclear just what the woman was doing on the freeway but one officer said she was sitting down in one of the lanes before being struck.

  • Hard Lesson Learned - A 3 year old boy was fatally injured when he got caught in the power windows of a car. The father left the boy in the car to make a phone call at a phone booth. Even though the boy was close by and in plain sight, when he turned his back briefly, the boy went to the front seat, activated the power window and suffered a severe neck compression injury. The death is accidental and no charges are likely to be filed. Although groups have pushed for a sensor that prevents these types of accidents, automakers have said there weren't enough deaths to necessitate a change. So exactly how many deaths are necessary?
