Eye Nosh: Time For a Spot of Tea

AfternoonTeaJinPatisserie.jpg

Afternoon tea is a delightful tradition that has morphed into its own stateside genesis of elegance and indulgence, complete with lots of food and, of course, tea. Here in Los Angeles there are many places to go for tea service that cover all aspects of the spectrum, from the casual to the hip. LAist Featured Photos contributor kristi.nicole recently enjoyed an afternoon of tea and treats at Venice's Jin Patisserie and gave us this brief sip of a rundown:

We all ordered the "Afternoon Tea" which includes Egg finger sandwiches, savories, homemade scones, butter cake, praline & Chef’s selection of mini sweet pastries and tea of your choosing. The scones are pretty amazing and the pastries are excellent every time. For tea I'd suggest the Earl Grey or the white teas.
Jin's offerings look like a dainty and modern take on the old classic; just one of many options for tea time in the city. Since LAist is always up for a good tea, we're wondering where to go ourselves, which means between our own (oddly Pasadena-centric) experiences (Chado, Rose Tree Cottage, the former Ritz Carlton Huntington Hotel, and The T Room) what else is out there. So where do we need to high-tail it for high tea?

Have never tried it, but I know Clementine's in Century City has an afternoon tea on Thursdays. Website says it's from 3-5, reservations required, $18.95/pp. www.clementineonline.com (under "Menu").

I love Chado Tea Room. They have a new location in Little Tokyo too. Jin looks amazing. I have been planning to go there.

ive been to chado and jin, i like jin more but the seats are not so great. ive been meaning to go to clementines but i always work during that time...

The Gilded Rose Manor in Northridge is not particularly posh but very nice. They serve a pretty traditional Yourkshire tea with sandwiches, hot savories, tasty scones with clotted cream, lemon curd, and strawberry jam. As for tea...they have at least 15 varieties but I like sticking with Assam.

We need a Bettys (Harrogate, South Yorkshire UK) in Los Angeles. Nothing beats Bettys for high tea I'm afraid.

Huntington Gardens tea room. So good!
