Episcopal Church Leaders Say 'No' to Banning Gay Marriage

Big news for the No on Prop 8 campaign: "California's six most senior Episcopal bishops today unanimously declared their opposition to a constitutional amendment on the statewide November ballot that would ban same-sex marriage," reported the LA Times. "The bishops argued that preserving the right of gays and lesbians to marry would enhance the 'Christian values" of monogamy, love and commitment.'"

At long last, a voice of reason from religion! I am thankful to hear clergy announce that monogamy, love, and commitment to a lifelong partner are Christian values regardless of the gender composition of the couple in the marriage. Thank you, ye good leaders of Episcopalian virtue.

I'm an atheist through and through, but I love hearing this kind of stuff from religious people, especially leaders.

As a non-practicing Episcopalian, this is almost enough to make me show up for church.
