Photos from the Red Carpet: Stand Up to Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer announced on Sunday that "from its launch on May 28, 2008, through September 5, 2008’s historic simultaneous commercial-free telecast, the initiative has raised more than $100 million to accelerate ground-breaking research and bring new therapies to patients more quickly."

ABC, CBS and NBC simultaneously ran the special television event commercial-free last Friday, donating the airtime. LAist was there Friday to bring you these pics straight from the red carpet. Ever wonder what your favorite glam queen looks like in a simple T-shirt and jeans? Check out the unofficial "uniform" worn proudly by well-known cancer survivors, stars who have lost loved ones or helped them through the struggle, and those still in the fight.

Lisa Paulsen, President & CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, the charitable organization for the television and film business that serves as the fiduciary behind Stand Up To Cancer thanked everyone involved and stated, "The Stand Up To Cancer movement has only just begun. Together, we can make the difference in this fight.”

One thing you never want to do on the red carpet is make the star laugh or smile or do anything when you don't have a camera pointed at their face. Everything was so crazy, I took a break and lowered my camera. Jon Favreau and my eyes met and we shared a moment of "Isn't this crazy?" For some inexplicable reason I winked at him. Then he put on his best pose for me, the "get shot" of the star looking right at you, and patiently waited for me to reposition my camera. I took about 5 shots, lowered my camera and nodded, and he moved on. What a totally cool guy. (Elise Thompson)
