A fire in Silver Lake damaged the inside of craftsmen home next to a church just off Sunset Blvd. early this afternoon. Shortly before 1:40 p.m., an employee at The Living Room, a furniture store across the street from the house, called 911 to report the fire. The fire at 1418 Golden Gate was probably started by a water heater, fire officials said after their preliminary investigation. The first story was well-involved when seven LAFD companies (that's around 40 firefighters) arrived as it extended into the second floor and attic. At 2:08 p.m., the fire was knocked down.

What a shame. I love those old Craftsmans.
Very sad. My wife and I used that house as inspiration for the color scheme of ours when we painted last year. Here's hoping no people/pets were hurt and that the owners have good insurance.
I was house hunting this spring and fell in love with this place. It was snatched up right before I found it and I always felt like it was the one that got away. It's crazy to see what happened today. I hope everyone is alright.
Somewhere, a NIMBY is saying " I sense a disturbance in the Force."
Hi there. I'm a close friend of the person who rented this house -- and, in fact, am sitting outside the house right now as I take a short break from helping him salvage things. (Thank goodness for open wireless networks, since his is obviously not working right now.) I just wanted to let people know that nobody was hurt. Thank you, everyone, for your concern.
