Walter Reed Gave No Permission to McCain

Republican-Convention_chun4.jpgNow that Water Reed Middle School in North Hollywood unexpectedly and mistakenly has become part of the debate about John McCain (read the background on this story here), principal Donna Tobin posts a statement on the school's blog:

It has been brought to the school’s attention that a picture of the front of our school, Walter Reed Middle School, was used as a backdrop at the Republican National Convention. Permission to use the front of our school for the Republican National Convention was not given by our school nor is the use of our school’s picture an endorsement of any political party or view.

Added bonus: we just think it's smart for a school to use blogging technology to easily communicate with the public without having to go through the bureaucracy of LAUSD's technology staff.

Oh my, the Heart song and the photo. Don't they have to get the rights to these things?? Even though the convention was on the news surely the RNC can't claim FAIR USE.

If you took the photo or bought the rights from the photographer you don't need the permission on the occupants of the building. So pretty much it doesn't matter what the school thinks.

But it's pretty funny if its true what they said that someone got confused and put that picture instead of the W.R. Medical Center. Awesome!

I went to Walter Reed and I'm totally horrified that an image of it was anywhere near the Republican convention!

And as for the Heart "Barracuda" thing--can't the fucking Republican party get its own artists to create art and messages to back up its candidates? Why don't they use Christian rock instead of ripping off and appropriating the work of artists who abhor them and what they stand for?

Obama has known ties to rabid racist Jeremiah Wright and terrorist friend William Ayres, Biden's son and brother have been indicted for defrauding investors of millions and THIS is a story? Really? REALLY?!?

Donna Tobin and you damn libs need to get over yourselves! Walter Reed Middle School is a PUBLIC building and NO permission is needed to use pictures of it for any reason!!!

> can't the fucking Republican party get its own artists to create art and messages to back up its candidates

Therein lies the problem. Creativity (for Republicans) is limited to someone else's creativity and making false claims about your opponents.

Don't sell the Republican's short, they're pretty creative. Remember when Colin Powell used his creativity to see a chemical weapons facility in that satellite photo? Remember when Bush created all that money for the rich with his tax cuts?

And don't forget that some Republicans (Palin) believe so strongly in creativity that they believe that creationism should be taught in science class!

can't the republican party stop paying off lowlifes to spread hate/lies on internet blogs?

imagine seeing "kevitivity" and "mccainwillwin" talk about the merits of why the hell their candidate should be elected instead of why obama shouldn't? ahh but that's too much to ask from the GOP.

Why McCain? I'm a JFK democrat, so I believe in self reliance over socialism. I also believe in self determination and self respect. I want smaller government as opposed to a massive one. We are already over taxed - I want taxes lowered. I'm for nuclear power... McCain can't give a good speech like Obama, be he's right on the issues.

Is the war a big issue to you? Well Obama has officially come to the center on that issue (just like with FISA) and is really no different then McCain.

If you believe government is too small, taxes are too low, and you want high energy prices, Obama. If you need the government to wipe your ass for you, Obama!

What is comes down to is the nanny-state versus personal freedom and self reliance.

"nanny-state"

It's easy to disregard government aid when, like John McCain, you've gone from one teat to the next.

Born the son of an admiral, he probably wouldn't have even graduated had his family name not carried him through school (5th from the bottom in his class - did his failures as a student translate into the crash that made him a POW?). He probably would have died or been permanently disabled by his wounds as a POW had he not been from a powerful military family.

He would never have had the money or connections to run for office had he not ditched his first wife, who raised his children while he was a POW, to marry a young, rich inheritor, who basically bought him a seat in the House of Representatives.

And of course, the minute he arrived in Congress, he immediately began sucking at the teat of special interests. Between 1982 and 1987 (he became a Senator in 86) McCain took $112k from one Charles Keating, for which McCain was only too happy to try and quash the federal investigation into the scandal that cost 21,000 mostly elderly people their savings.

So who's really living in the nanny state?

manmademound: "If you took the photo or bought the rights from the photographer you don't need the permission on the occupants of the building. So pretty much it doesn't matter what the school thinks."

Absolutely true. And most bloggers who are making this an issue should be ashamed, after all, a lot of these same bloggers are the ones who rail against the RIAA for suing over piracy and are quick to argue in defense of "fair use." (heck, I'm one of those people)
