The L.A. County Fair Opens Today!

DeepFriedAvocadoAgain.jpgIt's that time of year again--time to pack everyone in the car, gas it up, and trek out to the Fairplex in Pomona to get your LA County Fair on. You may have been seeing those ads that play on current events for this year's 18-days of fun and counting the days, or maybe you've never been. Either way, it's a fun outing, and, if you go today, admission is only $1 until 5 p.m. The fair boats hundreds of attractions, rides, booths, and shows, ranging from exotic animals to home improvement, prize-winning crafts and baked goods on display, horse racing, parades, concerts, and competitions galore.

But the real reason to go to the fair is the food. Oh, the fair food! Man, oh man. If it can take batter and hot oil, it will be fried. Look at this brief description of just some of the things you can sink your teeth into:

The deep-fried food offerings include deep-fried Spam with pineapples, deep-fried frog legs and deep-fried avocados [pictured].

Other food offerings include what is billed as the world's largest waffle cone, with the 16-inch cone filled with two pints of gelato, enough for an entire family to share.

Juicys Food's Outlaw Grill, one of the world's largest grills, will make its fair debut. The hydraulically powered 38-foot grill can cook 1,500 turkey legs. It also includes an over that holds 700 turkey legs, 100 briskets and pork butts.

Holy crap! And don't forget the deep fried Twinkies, Oreos, and olives, or the Krispy Kreme donut and chicken sandwich, or, well, plain old burgers, dogs, and cotton candy-type stuff. Bring your appetite of steel, and friends to share with.

I am all over this tomorrow eve... Great grubbage and piggie races! You can't lose!

I think my heart just exploded...from the love and caloric content of fried avocado.
