"It's a non-starter and pales in comparison to controversies that are actually recent, such as Palin's involvement in "Troopergate" in which subpoenas are about to be handed down."

I think a bigger issue is Palin firing a librarian for not banning certain books.

I'd like to know which books.

Isn't book banning, and book burning, a facist tactic that has been used by many other overy authoritarian governments though out history to exhert total control over their citizens?

Is this a mere preview of the type of Vice President or,(god forbid), President, Palin would be?

Why this is relevant--because it is one more example of the McCain campaign's weak commitment to fact checking. Why this is worth mentioning--because Sarah Palin has suggested that the convention backdrops are worth discussion. And why this is really funny--because Walter Reed Middle School is known for three things--all of which are pretty much of an anathema to the McCain campaign--1) highly gifted kids (i.e. like Barack Obama, referred to by Republicans as "the elite") 2) performing arts students (who will grow up and want to destroy the sanctity of marriage by marrying each other) and 3) poor Hispanic kids who qualify for school lunches (government handouts) and are in many cases, also English learners. Which makes it even funnier that they are now claiming they meant to show Walter Reed Middle School all along.....

Admittedly Kev this ReedGate is an issue that pales into comparison to some of the other big picture stuff (though it does, as many have pointed out, exemplify the inanity of some of his staff member's and, ostensibly, McCain's choices in hiring those people).

But, LAist has not shied away from talking about the "real" issues of this campaign, including how a McCain presidency might affect CA and who Palin really is, not just who she is telling us she is.

This Ayers stuff is grasping at straws. It's a non-starter and pales in comparison to controversies that are actually recent, such as Palin's involvement in "Troopergate" in which subpoenas are about to be handed down. Palin might not receive a subpoena, but investigators do want to interview her. There is also this crap about McCain lying about Palin having sold her jet on eBay, which she never did.

All of these morally murky events hearken back to the 90's when Bill Clinton's character was called into question by Republicans and the Moral Majority, the same people now supporting Palin for no other reason than because she breathes life into the Republican party.

Kev: This doesn't sound like a very close relationship to me. Ayers and Obama were on the same neighborhood council? Ayers and his wife do a livingroom fund raiser for Obama in 1995?

Gimme a break Kevie! So when did Obama and Ayers get together and build bombs?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversy_over_an_Obama%E2%80%93Ayers_connection

The Obama–Ayers controversy arose during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign regarding Presidential candidate Barack Obama's contact with Bill Ayers, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a former leader of the Weather Underground.[1] His position as a professor led to him serving on two nonprofit boards with Barack Obama, who lived in the same neighborhood. Both Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, hosted a small campaign meeting for Obama at their home in 1995.[2] The matter was covered by news organizations and brought up by the campaign of competing candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton in February 2008, revisited during a debate between Clinton and Obama in April 2008, then subsequently picked up by Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an issue in the general election campaign. Obama condemned Ayers' past through a spokesman,[3] and stated he does not have a close association with Ayers.[2]

The point is that McPain is a stupid old man that surrounds himself with incompetent people including his VP choice. He's a war veteran not a war hero who has voted against benefits for his fellow veterans. Before you vote for this fraud, go visit a VA hospital and ask yourself "why after 25 years in Congress" hasn't McPain done ANYTHING to improve the lives of other veterans and would he send his family to a VA hospital? BTW, what's with the God like stage with his flock looking up to his majesty??
Vampires were once people too

The big deal is that this is the President who admitted he doesn't know how to use a computer. Normally, you'd brush that off because he gets competent people to use the computer for him. This illustrates that he, in fact, doesn't do that at all. Anybody who does Google Image searches knows why this kind of error happens and how to avoid it. Is it a big deal if the President doesn't know what Walter Reed Hospital looks like? Maybe not. Is it a big deal the nobody on his staff knows what Walter Reed Hospital looks like? That's an argument to be made.
