That's a really good point, kchristieh! And, as a PS to marcel, in case you're wondering if I personally don't know the difference, I can tell you that I was born in Canada (you know, the country to the north of us) and went to high school one city to the West of La Cañada (that would be La Crescenta). The symbol is called a tilde. I use a mac, so to do it I type alt + n then the letter over which the tilde goes. Will LAist writers put tildes in from now on? Doubtful.

I'm usually picky about the ñ, but I've decided that it's usually better NOT to use it when writing on the web. When people search for something about La Cañada, they nearly always type "Canada" instead of "Cañada" into their search box, so a story that uses "Canada" is more likely to be found. Now to convince Craigslist that my "La Canada" listing was local, not international...

just out of curiosity, marcel, do you email and write to the Pasadena Star-News (i.e. http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/ci_10382149?source=rss_viewed) and KABC (i.e. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=6372594), too, when they write La Canada?

Would it be to difficult to put the symbol over the n in La Canada? Obviously, it is a challenge because I can't seem to do it right now. It would be worthwhile if you guys could figure out how to do that. Just a thought.
