Finding Parking (and Missing Stop Signs) is Now Easier at Century City Mall

Yesterday, Westfield Century City announced the launch of a state-of-the-art, electronic parking management system called Park Assist®, something they say is a first for North America.

Here's how it works. In addition to what The Grove does with their "how many open spaces on this level" signage, the Century City's parking garage has retro looking lights over each parking space. If you're looking down an aisle of parked cars, lights above will be red. If any are green, that means the space is empty. It helps you easily find a space, but also distracts you enough to miss stop signs since you're always looking up.

THIS IS FUCKING RETARDED.

I have been to century city since this has been installed, and actually found it quite helpful, and not retarded at all.

Just used it today. It made parking a sinch.

Pretty cool...though I've seen the same thing at BWI airport, not sure why they say this is "First in North America". I wonder what it has that the system at BWI doesn't.

I was there over this weekend and found the lights over each spot to be incredibly helpful and clever. The big sign didn't do much for me, but the little LED lights rock.

I didn't find myself distracted from the stops at all but I suppose I always stop anyway.

It's GREAT how fast you can find a spot!!! Now I'll go on the weekends. To Armando V99, I don't think they're saying its the first system in North America ... but it's the first Park Assist system in NA. I read on-line it just came over from Australia and England.
