Inglewood Police Shoot & Kill 4th Person
Since May, officer involved shootings in Inglewood have left four people dead. The latest was Sunday afternoon when police were called to a report of a homeless man with a gun, which ended up being a replica silver handgun, according to the LA Times.
After police tried to subdue the man with a beanbag gun, they say that the man reached for his waistband where the gun was when they shot him to death as well as a dog that was with him. A second person was shot by a stray bullet while in his car and was brought to a hospital.
This was the fourth officer involved shooting ending in death. The other three were:
- May 11: A group of young men in a car allegedly running away from gun shots ran toward police to safety, but officers mistook the car as the suspects and killed one man, Michael Byoune, 19, and wounding two.
- July 1: Ruben Walton Ortega, 23 an alleged gang member, was shot by police.
- July 21: A postal worker Kevin Wicks, 38, was killed in his own apartment after police allegedly went to the wrong apartment on a call and did not properly identify themselves.
The city of Inglewood police department is under review by the Office of Independent Review, a law enforcement monitor created by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, according to the Times.

Are they trying to set a record?

I saw on KCAL9 a witness who said the bum wasn't listening to the instructions by the police and when he finally put his hands up in the air, he was then fired upon. I don't know why it's not mentioned anywhere else - not even on the kcal9 website - but they aired the interview around 10:30pm.

Yea, the police believed the dog was armed as well.

An interesting point brought up by some Inglewood residents: How can a man in Westwood, armed with 5 hand guns, fire weapons in broad daylight - and simply get arrested and is alive.
Yet a homeless man in Inglewood, "armed" with a toy gun and homeless dog, are both fired upon and killed. Even an innocent bystander driving nearby was grazed by a bullet.
How do you explain that to your insurance company? "I was shot by the police - but they weren't shooting at me - they were shooting at a homeless man with a toy gun and his dog - What do you mean Inglewood isn't covered in my policy?"

Same reason a 14 year old kid in South Central who is joy riding gets gunned down by police, but you never hear about kids in Bev Hills or Westwood even getting arrested for joy riding, even though I'm sure it happens all the time. Kids are kids after all.
