2 Albino Dolphins Spotted off OC Coast

Video last month of an albino dolphin via the Beach Blog

A Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari of the coast of Dana Point turned into something of a rare event last month when a pod of dolphins joined the side of a boat, including a rare albino or “pink” dolphin (see above video).

Then yesterday two were spotted off the coast of Newport Beach by people on the Ocean Explorer, a sightseeing boat out of Balboa Island. It was an adult and a calf. “The adult was ABSOLUTELY the same one seen last month (off Dana Point),” said Tony Nichols of the American Cetacean Society to the OC Register. “But this is the first time we’ve seen the calf. And the calf was swimming with an adult of normal pigmentation.”

There is an estimated 400,000 common dolphins along the coast here, according to Capt. Dave Anderson of the Dana Point safari.
