A reminder to all photographers, videographers and tapers - keep a blank tape/photo card in your pocket at all times to pull a switcheroo. It may not always work, especially while getting beaten and cuffed, but it's worth a try.

First and foremost taking an item by force without the owners permission is robbery. A felony in most places including Los Angeles. Then there's the assault and battery. Mix in an unlawful detention. Add to the detention the fact that the guards chased the guy out in the street, apprehended him away from the venue they were guarding, and then dragged him back to the security area. That might be construed as kidnapping.

As someone who got a camera literally punched into his face while filming a show, my sympathies are with you guys. Get that tape and sue the fuck out of them.

Video tapping a patron being roughed up by a private security firm ( a possible crime), then having that video tape stolen ( another crime) by CSC employees might make the whole incident eligible for RICO prosecution. The fact that these guys were assaulted before the videotape was stolen, makes it violent, felony level crime. Also the non-action by LAPD (which is still under Federal oversight due to illegal actions by officers in the Rampart division) only adds to the tragedy of this event.

OK so besides the assault and battery, I can think of at least two Constitutional rights CSC violated. The first and the fourth, and I think there's something about violating them under color of authority that makes it worse. A good Constitutional lawyer could probably come up with more. Sean and Co. if I were you I'd call the ACLU and see if they wanted in on this.

Have fun trying to get anything out of CSC. The company seems to be run by and with the help of brainless thugs. Ask the soccer fans at many major venues around the country - CSC broke the leg of one at RFK in Washington, DC a few years back.

Clicking on the CSC link above will take you to the site. There's "Contact Us" link, though I don't know how effective it is, that will allow you to contact the CEO, one Damon Zumwalt. I've written and suggested the tape be returned unmodified.

I'll wait until everything unfolds to make any judgments. This is only one side of the story. and btw, if the abuse of the security and the neglect of the police was truly this heinous, shouldn't they not be talking about any of this due to the pending law suit?
