I walk 2 and a half miles to work each day to save on gas. It's also a great source of exercise.
I just realized I didn't win the cafe tacuba giveaway.
dammit.
i carpool on my commute to school!
I drive a hybrid and I plan on taking the bus or riding a bike around my new neighborhood in Venice/Santa Monica!
I recycle all my newspapers and magazines.
I ride my bicycle to work twice a week.
I use a canvas bag when I go grocery shopping so that I won't have to waste plastic bags. I also take the bus everyday to work!
I walk to lunch during the week rather than drive.
I am very conscious about what I throw away and what I recycle.
I carpool to work or drive my 45mpg motorcycle!
I always bring my reusable bags to the grocery store!
i moved across the street from campus so I wouldn't have to drive and I bring my own bags!
All the bulbs in my apartment are CFL bulbs.
I have a car and can afford gas, but I chose to take Metro wherever possible.
Dammit, that person took mine!
1. I use low-energy bulbs in my apartment.
2. I walk to anywhere I want to go within a mile of my apartment - cut down on useless driving.
Cheers!
I work from Home 4 days a week and I take 3 minute showers.
My girlfriend uses a reusable bag when she goes shopping and has a compost bin and recycles dish water.
I re-use all the paper I get anywhere as scratch paper, even if there is some type of print or writing on it.
I conserve over 20 gallons of water by sharing the shower with my boyfriend in the morning :)

I am vegan!!! Holla!
Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. --Albert Einstein
I use my own bags when shopping - grocery or otherwise, CFL lightbulbs, compost table scraps, only drive when necessary, and encourage others to at least recycle as well as setting an example!
i take the subway to work every day!! and i recycle (which is easy in california, but i just moved here from texas, where it is definitely NOT easy). mmm...also, i make my boyfriend turn off the lights and fans when we are not in the room.
I've converted from bottled to filtered water, and I can proudly say (from my puddle of sweat) that I've used my A/C this summer less than 9 total hours.
For some reason my apartment doesn't have a recycling bin, so I haul all of my recyclables around in the trunk of my volvo and take them to the nearest center. I don't always have time to make it out there every week so sometimes the load gets pretty big. Even then deal with it because I feel guilty if I don't do it
I drive a Smart car, planning on getting the electric one in 2010. I buy energy efficient bulbs, and unplug my gadgets that don't need to be plugged in 24/7!
im vegan.
I'll be honest, I try not to drive too much. But this is LA so it's a little impossible. I Water the lawn every other day. Recycle as much as I can, make sure what's recyclable gets recycled. Use those fabric shopping bags at the grocery store. Looking into installing solar panels on the roof of the house - but that initial investment is a killer. You would think that somehow that would be less expensive as well, eh? I ride the bike to the gym. Try to manage the use of anything disposable, make sure it is environmentally friendly.
Anyway... I try.
I try to cut down on driving my car by taking the metro when I can. I recently took the metro rail to the hollywood bowl for both radiohead concerts!
My husband rides his bike to work daily from North Hollywood to Santa Monica! And I compost, use fluorescent bulbs, and all the usual stuff.
In my K-3rd grade Special Day Class for students who have emotional disturbances, we discuss and practice the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. I do read alouds with my students, listen and discuss some of the songs on the Curious George soundtrack, have a student created box with all reused materials, and use that box to collect our recycling from school and home.
I recycle and ride my bike to work (on occasion). I should do more, maybe winning these tickets will shame me into being more green.
I reuse Yogi Tea boxes as mini gift boxes by turning them inside out, it's has a pretty pattern!!
I take the bus and the train!
I just moved back into town and i bought a bicycle and i use to get pretty much everywhere. I also have OCD so if I kick a piece of paper on the floor that I didn't put there, I pick it up and throw it in the trash.
I use my own bags at trader joes (and everywhere else)
I walk 30 minutes to class, sometimes making 4 trips to and back. I use my own durable grocery bags at super markets. I don't own an AC. I carry a metal water bottle and re-fill it whenever I get the chance. Um, I recycle, and my friends that live close to me are starting a compost heap. Yay earth!
Ride the bicycle in to work!
I recyle, reduce and reuse.
I'm too late to get in on the contest but this is such a good subject I'd like to contribute anyway.
I do most of the things mentioned in the above comments.
And at the print shop I work at I:
Stay educated on the latest, greenest, printing inks, chemestry, and methods.
Stay educated on the best, least impactful, paper and paper products.
Encourage customers to use recycled and tree free paper products.
Offer to make our customer's waste paper into scratch pads for them for free.
i use all natural house cleaners and hand soap.
Besides having bought a way more fuel efficient car I have not once used the A/C in my room this summer. I rather use the ceiling fan when it's too warm and open every window/ door of our house in the evening! Oh, and I actually moved to a neighborhood where I can actually can walk to bars, restaurants and supermarkets instead of taking the car to those places.
I just put CFL bulbs in all my light fixtures that I got for free from the "Sustainable L.A", a green event held with the Downtown L.A. Film Festival on August 17.
P.S. by the way, August 28th is today Thursday and not "Wednesday", like the original post states so you may want to fix that.
Cheers!
I used to live in Laurel Canyon, but got tired of driving everywhere and moved by Los Feliz/Silver Lake to take advantage of public transportation and walking.
My friends and I took the very convenient shuttle from the LA ZOO to the Hollywood Bowl to see Radiohead on Monday night! My other friends took the Metro. =)
I recycle and I nag my boyfriend about watering the grass for too long
Since the beginning of summer, I have been taking the bus to work every day!
I turn off the air conditioner when my roomates aren't around and try not to use it myself unless it's REALLY hot out. I also take the metro into Hollywood whenever I can and would take it much more frequently if it ran until 2AM.
i ride my bike to run all my errands & i recycle plastic bottles and cans.
I bike to work every day.
I walk to work, grow my own veggies, use canvas bags for shopping, and wear my clothes more than once before washing. I'm stinky.
I live in East Hollywood and work at UCLA Children's Hospital. I take the bus to work 2-3 times a week, and ride my bike (20 mi. round trip) the other days.
I ride my bike to work once a week, and drive a small, fuel efficient car. I also maintain the recycling program at my office.
I'm a vegan, drive a small car, and reuse my bags. I also prefer open windows to A/C.
Yesterday, on the way home from work, I saw a bag lady with a dozen full white plastic shopping bags surrounding her on the cement. I stopped, got out of my car and gave her my 3 Trader Joes recyclable shopping bags from my back seat.
i ride the bus everyday. everrrrryday. :)
I recycle like a fiend.
I wished myself green on Yoko Ono's tree using recycled paper.
I rarely turn on lights during the day. I turn off the A/C at night and open the windows. I don't speed when I'm driving and I keep my car/tires in good repair. I also recycle, when possible. In addition, I'm a Scorpio, enjoy long walks on the beach, and like to wear a top hat.
Dont't fight, ladies. There's enough of me to go around.
Apparently I also cannot spell. You don't know what you're missing.
I made my office start recycling and have changed us over to compostable kitchenware!
"Dont't fight, ladies. There's enough of me to go around."
But I thought you suffered from Post Traumatic Breast Syndrome.
