LAPD Not Adapting Well to Non-Address Locations

ballona bike pathFollowing up on the story where a bicyclist was attacked and robbed by two men on the Ballona Creek Bike Path, Streetsblog LA finds that this is not a new problem. This month's incident demonstrated that the LAPD had hard time dealing with the incident because no numbered street address could be given. Even when the city's Dept. of Transportation tried to find out the crime statistics for the path, the LAPD could only give data for the area. And now Streetsblog finds that this problem existed back in the 90s.

The Blackhole of crime.

Really makes me scared about what the L.A. River path will be like if it ever gets completed.

I like the Orangeline bike path, the sherif is always cruising down the busway thats within sight of the path.
Sadly its so damn hot in the valley.

Since the most recent aattack occured, I've been going out of my way to ride that stretch of Ballona Creek on my morning and afternoon commutes because I'm not going to let the terr'ists win.

So far the place has been freakin' idyllic -- although apparently not as dreamy as the Orange Line in the Valley where nothing criminal ever happens because unicorns and sheriff's deputies are apparently everywhere. Pffft.

There was an effort to do mile-markers on the LA River in Atwater - in part so emergency responders had something to use for addresses. There was a pilot installed in ~2005... though I am not sure if it works or not.
