They're just hotdogs. Relax. There's no underlying principle to be upheld. It's simple, like drugs, where there's a demand there will always be a supply. The War on Hot Dogs is a joke.

Street Food Vendors Violate a multitude of laws. They are not; 1. Licensed Food Handlers 2. They do not pay rent. 3. They do not charge Sales tax. 4. They do not have permits. If they stayed away from Grumman's Chinese and Kodak Theater on Hollywood Blvd then they would not have attracted the attention of property mangers and the police last week. These people are trying to make a living but I ask myself sometimes, all the carts look alike, the signs all the same and their gear is identical. There is someone taking a cut on the profits in exchange for giving them the cart and the supplies. There's a Hot Dog Kingpin out there in Los Angeles that owns all these carts. The vendors are just his/her employees. That's where the real issue is, unregulated commerce.

I also read how the hot pan is exactly at the eye level of small children. I mean the whole thing is cobbled together out of parts not exactly intended for frying greasy meet out in public.

I bought a bacon-wrapped inside the festival for $5 and it was crap. The ones right outside were way delicious and cheaper. Long live the bacon-wrapped hot dog!

Be consistent is all I say. Being inconsistent is just going to piss people off and I personally think it's harassment. Either stop them from selling all the time or let them be.

I noticed there was a whole row of them outside of the Hollywood Bowl last night after the Radiohead show. Cops were all around that same area but they didn't appear to be hassling the vendors, at least not at the time I was passing by.

"It's all about health codes." I'd bet sales tax plays into it as well. How many street vendors actually pay their sales tax? Prepared food which is served to you, is taxable. (MMMmmm them quesadillas look rockin'!!!!)

I don't understand how/why they're banned -- must be something to do with *unauthorized* vendors. There was an actual booth with a huge bacon-wrapped dogs sign near the ghetto carousel at Sunset Junction too.
