I saw Kirk Douglas and his wife on Channel 7 Newsmakers Sunday. Together they have done some magnificent philanthropic work getting children's playgrounds built and re-built. I forget the exact number but it's up in the 400's.

I has not known that Kirk Douglas had suffered a stroke. He spoke very slowly and laboriously, having to carefully enunciate each word. I admire him for doing that. Most stroke victims shy away from public speaking when they have trouble with speech. I thought it was very brave of him to speak on a local news show even with his disability.

Mandela was actually in an Oscar nominated film. Sure it was *about* him, but it counts, right?

IMDB listing here: Mandela: Son of Africa, Father of a Nation
