I was hopeful for something more than rhetoric in Obama's message of change. Sigh.

A 6th term Senator who has been part of the problem for decades just doesn't cut it.

And of course, there's the RAVE act that Uncle Joe created: http://www.drugpolicy.org/communities/raveact/

Slow Joe is a New England liberal, so this isn't gong to help BO with red states (where he really needs help). Seems like a politically dumb move to me.

Agreed on all points. My biggest concern is his big mouth. But that's a much smaller problem with the Veep, who's role is often to be the guy who states what is politically incorrect, but politically expedient.

I don't know if it'll play during the election, but another factor when considering the Big Picture is what Biden's age means for the post-Obama president. If Obama wins, is a successful president, and (as we all pray) doesn't get assassinated, Biden will be older than McCain is now when Obama's term ends in 8 years.

As with Bush's choice of Cheney, this means the successor isn't obvious. Both Gore and Hilary will be 68. That's old, but not McCain-old. Thus it leaves it to the up-and-comers to claim their position in the future. If Obama is elected and his presidency is indeed transformational, this is a good thing as it paves the way for the new generation of political leaders. I wonder who they will be.

It is a hopeful, but tenuously so, future we face.
