Ticketmaster Goes Indie, Kinda

ticketmasterinweho.jpgToday is the first day that West Hollywood based Ticketmaster is on their own. Its parent company IAC/InterActiveCorp spun off the ticket seller and three other internet sites to make five separate publicly traded companies. At the end of the article posted on the LA Times' website, it has this little nugget about one of the most frustrating parts regarding Ticketmaster: "[The Company] may consider revamping how it presents fees and charges, if not reduce the actual costs, which vary from ticket to ticket but can amount to nearly half of face value.'The fee structure is too complex,' [CEO Sean] Moriarty said. 'We're hopeful that over the next couple of years we'll make it much more fan-friendly.'"

I wonder how Ticketmaster subsidiary ticketsnow.com factors into this realignment -- it's an antitrust issue waiting to blow up with Ticketmaster holding back tickets to popular events and selling them at inflated prices via ticketsnow.

What's so "indie" about a publicly-traded company that scalps its own customers when it's not otherwise charging them 25-50% service charge premiums?

I love how they will restructure their fees "in a few years."

Jackasses.

Why is it so hard to figure out the fee's per event?

When I am king, Ticketmaster will be the first against the wall.

I too hate Ticketmasters (AKA Ticketbastards). With today's technology there is no need for them anymore. I think venue's should have their own online Box Offices

Burn, Ticketbastard...burn...
