MUSIC*: The 1st & Central Summer Concerts at the Japanese American National Museum continues tonight featuring the Cheap Landscape’s distorted Colombian cumbia and zocaloZüe’s pumped-up Mexican son jarocho. The outdoor concert begins at 6:30 pm with a kickoff performance by La Santa Cecilia. A variety of food and beverages are available on site.

OLD FILM: Film critic Kevin Thomas introduces the director’s cut of the 1971 film The Last Picture Show at the Aero Theatre tonight at 7:30 pm. Jeff Bridges, Timothy Bottoms and Cybill Shepherd as sexually confused teens in a dying Texas town in a film directed by Peter Bogdanovich.

FILM IN THE OC: The Universe of Keith Haring screens tonight at the Orange County Museum of Art. Its billed as “a thorough and intimate exploration of the background and career of Keith Haring one of the most popular and significant artists of the 20th century, featuring Fab 5 Freddy, Jeffrey Deitch, Kim Hastreiter, Grace Jones, Madonna, Yoko Ono, David LaChapelle, Kenny Scharf, Carlo McCormick, Andy Warhol, Ann Magnuson, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Tony Shafrazi, and Junior Vasquez, among others.”

WORD: The full-length theater piece “The Word Begins” is on stage tonight at 8 pm as part of the Greenway Court Theatre’s week-long spoken word fest “Celebrate the Word.” The production has been heavily influenced by “the energy and style of hip-hop, spoken word, and stand-up and sketch comedy.”

FILM: The Echo Park Film Center screens the Best of Attack of the 50 Foot Reels tonight at 8 pm. Each of these short films -- and films they are not digital -- are made by filmmakers who choose one roll (50 feet) of Super 8 film and shoot their films in order so that all editing and cuts are made in camera. The films were made as part of the Flicker Festival, and founder Norwood Cheek and some of the filmmakers will be in attendance.
