It's Not Just Hot Dogs, LAPD After Fruit Carts

fruitcartvendor.jpgAfter reading our LAPD vs. the Hot Dog Carts story and witnessing something yesterday, a reader, Michelle, writes in about the fruit cart guy in front of her office:

I work on Wilshire in the Miracle Mile area. Every day for the past year or so there's been a guy outside our office selling fruit from a cart filled with ice.

Yesterday around 11 am there were four cops down by where the cart is usually located. We thought there had been an accident. The cops were talking to the guy who sells fruit and his cart was up on a flat-bed truck, along with at least three other carts. Have you heard anything about a fruit cart sting operation? Seems like there's a lot more going on in L.A. that the cops could focus their time and efforts on.

This and the bacon-wrapped hot dog story are nothing new to Los Angeles, but perhaps there is an increased effort? Is this the next taco truck cultural-food battle?

Although I sympathize that bacon hot dog merchants don't deserve the persecution they received, I had a harder time rallying for the cause being vegan. But now they are going after fruit carts too, the only healthy street food around amidst government regulations of junk food, what gives? Eat healthy Los Angeles, but we're going to persecute fruit merchants off the street, what irony.

I just think our cops priorities need to change. Have they solved all other problems and to be attacking the street vendors????
