MUSIC JAM*: The Ford Amphitheatre’s J.A.M. Sessions series continues tonight with “String Along to Bluegrass.” Audience members can bring along their acoustic string instruments for an evening of bluegrass jamming. The event’s hosted by the Bluegrass Association of Southern California and begins at 7 pm. And make an evening by bringing your own food and drink (or buy it there) for a picnic. The Ford opens two hours prior to evening performances for picnicking in the terraced entryway.

OLD FILM: The UCLA Film & Television Archive brings the restored print of The Exiles (1961) to Los Angeles tonight at 7:30 and 9:45 at the Billy Wilder Theatre. Shot in black-and-white, The Exiles chronicles a single night in LA, “when Homer (Nish) and Yvonne (Williams) leave their Apache reservation to start a new life in Bunker Hill, they find only poverty and isolation awaiting them.”

FILM: And I am telling you that the “Great to Be Nominated Series” continues tonight @ the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre with Dreamgirls. The film received eight Academy Award nominations in 2006, including one for ex-American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson. The feature begins at 7:30 pm, with short films preceding at 7 pm. Tickets are a bargain at $5.

DOCUMENTARY FILM: This Is The LA River, the Fall 2007 Echo Park Film Center Youth Documentary Project about the concrete river, screens as part of Documental, Gerry Fialka’s monthly documentary cinema series at UnUrban Cofee House. The screening starts at 8 pm.
