LAst Night's Action: Bums Sweep Phils

Matt Kemp Points to the Heavens

LA Dodgers defeat Philadelphia Phillies 3-1. Dodgers pitching pretty much shut down the Phillies since the third inning of Wednesday's game. In this game the Phillies managed two hits off Hiroki Kuroda. Meanwhile the Dodgers got just enough timely hits to beat the Phils and get their first four-game sweep of the Phils since 1962. The Dodgers are now three games over .500 for the first time since May 25 and stay tied for first place of the Loser's Division with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

LA Galaxy ties Chivas USA 2-2. With former US men's soccer team head coach Bruce Arenas looking on, the Galaxy tied the game on Alan Gordon's goal in stoppage time in the second half. Chivas played the last 10 minutes down a man with an injury to Jesse Marsch and no substitutions left. The fact that Chivas was leading the game after the 90th minutes was a miracle unto itself considering how awful they looked in the first half. Fortunately the Galaxy could not take advantage of their chances only scoring once on a Landon Donovan goal in the 14th minute. Meanwhile AEG President/CEO Tim Leiweke spoke with reporters about the turbulence going on with Galaxy. One thing seemed absolutely sure: Leiweke really wants Arenas to lead the Galaxy. While there is some urgency to fill the coaching position, there is no timetable to fill the GM position.
