There's a new neighborhood fire station opening up at 3690 Motor Avenue in Palms this Saturday. The dedication ceremony and official grand opening will take place at 10:00 a.m. followed by food, entertainment and tours until 2:00 p.m.

Station 43 was built to be energy efficient and features a "'drive through' feature that prevents the need to block traffic on busy Motor Avenue when rehousing Fire Department vehicles," according to LAFD's blog.

The previous station on National Blvd., built in 1922, was cramped because it was only designed to house mo more than four firefighters and two fire apparatuses. It was heated by "air forced across hot water pipes from a 200 gallon storage tank".

Very cool photo. Anybody know who made that fire truck?

Love the firetruck!

Bingo, click on the "previous station" link.

It says the truck is a Kenworth.

Wow - they are just getting around to "opening" it? I feel like its been up and running for almost a year now; I wonder why the dedication is just happening now?

I was going to guess American LaFrance.

Love the lines of the older vehicles. The streamlining (after the blunt front end) and protruding fenders look cool. Huge cab too.
