There are a lot of falls over at and near Point Fermin and the Sunken City, whether it is accidental or suicidal. The battle for safety precautions over natural views of the ocean can be a contentious one with the community. There comes a point where you can't stop people from killing themselves or just being stupid by climbing over the fence to get that "perfect shot," only to tumble down the cliff and now subject of a local TV news' helicopter shot.

"We may never be able to stop someone from climbing over the wall and taking their own life, but I want to make it more difficult for accidental falls that can result in serious injury or death," Councilwoman Janice Hahn said to LAist in an e-mail yesterday after the suicide. Hahn represents the 15th district, which includes San Pedro.

"I have been focused on figuring out how to make the cliffs safer," Hahn continued. "I have called for increased patrols of our park rangers and LAPD and have had new, larger warning sings installed all along the wall surrounding the cliffs. At Sunken City, we have installed new rod iron fences to keep people out of the area."

We really need to do something about the gravity problem.

You know, it really sucks that a few idiots have to ruin it for everyone ALWAYS.
Sunken City was one of most beautiful (and one of my personal favofite) places to hang out in LA, and now no one can go there because of few people who don't have common sense.
Let's also get rid of cars, any kind of fire-starting device, electricity, prescription medication, the sun, and anything else that can possibly do someone bodily harm if used improperly. Damn.
