Chef Salvatore Marino of Il Grano invites tomato fans to join him for tomato-tasting Wednesdays. Over 40 different tomatoes are featured, some of which are not available anywhere except Italy. Menu selections include: bottarga spaghetti with Amish gold tomatoes and celebrity tomato and mascarpone gelato. Through October 1st.

THEATER
The New World Flamenco Festival presents Compañia Somos Flamencos, a flamenco company featuring some of Spain's top dancers, musicians and singers. Tonight is the last show, so head down to Irvine and catch it, or you'll have to wait until the 2009 - 2010 national tour.

You would think that being in city widely considered as the center of everything movie related, a movie festival may have taken place downtown at some point. Apparently not, but now that is about to change. Check out opening night of the inaugural Downtown Film Festival. The Orpheum Theater plays host to the festival's first screening, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, an Internet based love story set in L.A.

The ongoing MAK Urban Future Initiative Public Forum presents its second event, PanAmerican Urbanism: From Caracas to East Los Angeles. Architect Efrén Santana and urban planner James Rojas will present a comparitive study of the built environments of their respective cities, Caracas and Los Angeles.
