Dov Charney's Lost Dog

Update: Hedkayce, the dog, has been found.

The Silver Lake and Echo Park area was slammed with flyers this weekend showing this dog, pictured above. And if flyers were not enough, two billboards, back-to-back, at Sunset and Alvarado featured the cute dog asking anyone who has seen it or has found it to contact the owner.

And who could afford such an effort? The one and only Dov Charney of American Apparel. One of the flyers read:

Her Name is Hedkayce. I have had her for 10 years. She weighs 10lbs and has a scar on the left side of her face. She was left in the front yard of my home at 1809 Apex Ave. (Silverlake [sic] area). Please call at 213-923-7493 (cell) or my assistant Maria at 213-923-0616. ~ Dov Charney
We hope Hedkayce is found (and really hope this is not some way to advertise the company's Organic Baby Rib Dog T, as we've heard some people mumble off the record). A phone call and e-mail this morning to American Apparel were not immediately returned.

According to a letter written to Gawker back in April regarding Charney's "fuck you" statue in his yard, HedKayce has gone missing before... or she's been missing since at least then.

Looks like coyote lunch to me...

he loses that dog all the damn time. It gets lost in the factory and everyone has to stop what they're doing and find it. It's absolutely ridiculous.

yeah, my first thought was that it's got to be an ad.

His dog's probably illegal and the Fuzz deported its ass!

At first, I couldn't help but be reminded of Jaws, when all the fisherman wanted to go hunt the shark for money. Not exactly analogous, but you get my drift.

Then, I though, wow, celebrity dog-napping might be very lucrative.

Who is with me?

i like that little dod i fed that dog for 10 days. i stayed at the big house above silverlake will miss the poor little thing

I lived on the same street as Dov for years (Douglas Street in Echo Park) and I can tell you, Hedkase and the other dog that lived there were neglected 24/7. They were left outside 24 hours a day whether it was blazing hot, freezing at night or even raining. They never had any water or food. When I tried to talk to one of the constant stream of hipsters streaming in and out of there, I was told to "F Off."

So now that I've moved to Silver Lake, I was bummed to see a notice on my car. Seems Dov moved to SL, too and again, left his dogs out front. Sadly, we have a huger and more brazen coyote population over here. My only hope is a neighbor saw the poor little guy, hungry and neglected and took him.

It's unbelieably sad that someone that has so much money and resources would treat their animals so, so poorly. With all the money he's paying on billboards and flyers, those dogs could have gone to day care or had a real caring dog sitter.

Awesome! After 2 years, OrangeCream is finally open!

I saw the billboard the other night and I presumed that it was an American Apparel ad.
