No More Saturday Hours for California DMV

Short waits at the DMV are once again a thing of the past | Photo by SteveLyon via Flickr
Governor Schwarzenegger's budget has called for many job losses and service cuts, and the Department of Motor Vehicles has been one of the most prominent in recent days to be on the chopping block. With many DMV employees already out of work and reduced hours announced at several locations statewide comes the news that there will be no Saturday hours offered for the month of August.
The DMV broke the news yesterday, directly attributing the need to eliminate services that had been available on the third Saturday of each month at 53 locations with the Governor's budget. Already it has become more time-consuming to get tasks done at the DMV for its patrons, with the approximately 1,000 DMV employees who were laid off last week no longer on the job. According to KNBC, "a DMV representative said it already takes about 30 minutes longer to get service at the counter." Patrons are being urged strongly to visit the DMV website and get as much as possible done using their online service, which includes filing a change of address, renewing your vehicle registration, renewing your license, order special interest plates, and more. It is not known if the reduced hours will be in effect September and beyond.

Arnold is an incompetent fool, and the worst governor this state has had in a century. Sad.

I haven't had to go to the DMV in a while since 2002 - I do all my dmv transactions via AAA, which does most of it. Completely worth the yearly fee, I wait 15 minutes max at AAA for DMV services.
Actually, are DMV people at AAA actual AAA employees or DMV employees?
