Gas for Under $4?
The average price of gas in Los Angeles is now down to $4.160, which is pretty flush with the state's average ($4.159). Mark Lacter at LA Biz Observed is starting to see gas prices hit below $4.00 in some places. But Steve Hymon at Bottleneck Blog found that the gas station he watches, a Chevron in Pasadena, on a daily basis is still pretty high ($4.31) compared to the average and surrounding stations.

Gas should be artificially inflated for non commercial consumption and kept at quasi-market value for commercial transportation means...i started driving again out of sheer laziness and hate myself for it...make gas $8 a gallon, get all the gas guzzlers off the road and idiots like me back on bikes like i was a month ago...

which i guess means im just voting for an insane gas tax for privately consumed (household vehicles)gas and gas for the trucks/vehicles transporting food/goods left at market value...

I just finished putting enough gas in the company truck so the boss can make it to Costco.
$4.35 per gal. Chevron at 16th and Main.

it's a nice idea, but some of us can't bike to work - such as those of us who can't afford to live close enough to work to be able to bike, or people with disabilities.
if there were better forms of reliable public transportation, I might be on board for such an idea, but it’s like charging a “junk food tax” to discourage people from eating unhealthily.
I say, let people choose what they want to do. don’t coerce them.

bummer. i was looking forward to $5 or more per gallon. people don't drive or consume less because it's the right thing to do. people do it because it hurts their bottom line. my mom doesn't reuse the plastic containers her food comes in because reusing is green. she does it because she's cheap.
i'm willing to pay an immense tax on gasoline if the monies are earmarked for smart mass transportation or cleaner and greener research.

Yea, and hope Sacramento doesn't "borrow" it to balance the budget.

I too hope it stays over $4 a gallon.
In the long run, it'll be good for us.

Pasadena gas prices suck. Always cheaper in Altadena/South Pasadena/Alhambra

One thing is certain. If the price per barrel drops to the levels it was when gas was averaging $3.50 per gallon we'll still be paying more than that, closer to $4.00 per, at the pump.
It always works out that way. Once prices hit a certain mark they don't fall the previous level again...at least not for the consumer.
It's not about the number of refineries, the supplies, or the suppliers. It's all about speculation. Once again, we middle Americans, are footing the bill for someone else's profit. Don't you love helping strangers become rich(er)?
And it's quite true that in Los Angeles at least, quite a few people live far enough from work to have to drive. One purchases a home they can afford on the pay they make and typically that means the home is at least thirty miles away. Usually farther.
